Cherokee Nation Entertainment employee volunteers stopped by to deliver much-needed items for the upcoming school year to Justus-Tiawah School last Friday. The employees collected the items with their own funds as part of the Community Impact Team, a group of employees at each Cherokee Casino property who dedicate their free time to improving and impacting their local communities.

“Our staff is so appreciative of Cherokee Nation’s continued support and the casino staff,” said Kim Larmon, Justus-Tiawah School elementary principal. “This generous donation helps to provide supplies for students that don’t always have everything they need.”

Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs staff gathered more than 300 items for the children and teachers at the school, including erasers, glue, rulers, pencils, crayons, markers, binders, disinfecting wipes and construction paper.

“We know times are tough when it comes to the necessary supplies in our classrooms,” said Rusty Stamps, general manager at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs. “We hope this donation can help both the students and teachers be assured the materials will be there for their daily routines, allowing them to focus on their studies.”

CIT employees from each casino host a drive for a school in their community that could benefit from additional supplies. Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs partnered with Justus-Tiawah School for their 2017 drive.

“Teachers usually have to come up with extra supplies on their own,” said Larmon. “This donation allows them to spend money on other important things for their classrooms.”
