The opening night of the 2013 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season was put together by the track’s racing office this morning. Friday night’s nine-race card boasts full-fields throughout the program that kicks off the 25th Anniversary Season.
A total of 91 horses were entered for the card for an average field size of 10.4 horses per race prior to any scratches. The first race of the season on Friday, Aug. 16 is at 7pm.
A $40,000 allowance turf sprint will serve as the main offering on Opening Night. A field of eight entered the five-furlong race for 3-year-olds and older. The 9-year-old Humble Smarty, a career winner of six races at Remington Park and 18 overall, will return to face other talented speedsters. Among the top rivals in the feature turf race are Flat Black, earner of $171,996 in his career and winner of four local races; and Perfect Parker, who makes his Remington Park while attempting to continue a two-race winning streak. Both of Perfect Parker’s streak scores have come at the five-furlong turf distance in June, first at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La. and then at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Opening Weekend continues on Saturday night with the first stakes races of the season sharing the billing. The $175,000 Governor’s Cup at 1 1/8 miles and the $75,000 David M. Vance Sprint Stakes at six furlongs are the main events on the Saturday, Aug. 17 with the first race at 7pm.
The Opening Weekend features a 25th Anniversary Cap Giveaway on Friday, Aug. 16 with Cash Giveaways on Saturday, Aug. 17. Promotional festivities begin in the Racing Entrance Lobby at 5pm both nights.
Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby, to be run for the 25th time on September 29, 2013.
