Retama Park Set to Open October 4

When Retama Park kicks off its 19th season of live Thoroughbred racing October 4  , fans will have new entertainment and dining options and a new later start time each night. Live racing runs every Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:15PM.

“We decided to move post time back by thirty minutes to give our fans a little more time to make it for the first race,” said Retama Park Director of Racing Operations Steve Ross.

“With traffic congesting on I-35, especially on Friday nights, we think this new start time can be good for fans and good for racing,’ Ross added.

Friday night’s opening card has nine Thoroughbred races, including a $21,000 allowance optional claiming event at six furlongs on the main track. One Fast Frog is trained by Jerenesto Torrez and ridden by Gerardo Mora, the 2012 leading rider at Retama Park. The lightly raced 4-year-old mare has won four of her last five starts including a $40,000 starter allowance at Santa Anita in March. One Fast Frog is 4-1 in the morning line.

Oktoberfest at Retama Park
Every Saturday in October the track is hosting an Oktoberfest party with craft beer, smoked bratwurst, sauerkraut and live German Polka music. The new beer garden concept is on the east side of the track level inside the grandstand.
