Remington Park Announces Thoroughbred Stakes Schedule

Remington ParkRemington Park in Oklahoma has announced its stakes schedule for the Thoroughbred meet with a total of 33 events worth more than $3.5 million. The 2015 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season opens August 14 and runs through December 13. The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby is the richest race on a stakes schedule.

The spectacular Oklahoma Derby Day program on Sunday, Sept. 27 features seven stakes races worth a total of $1,050,000. The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby at 1-1/8 miles headlines the card which also includes:

*$200,000 Remington Park Oaks, 3-year-old fillies, 1-1/16 miles
*$150,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup, 3-year-olds and older, six furlongs
*$100,000 Remington Green, 3-year-olds and older, 1-1/16 miles (turf)
*$75,000 Kip Deville Stakes, 2-year-olds, six furlongs
*$75,000 Ricks Memorial, fillies and mares, 3 and older, 1-1/16 miles (turf)
*$50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes, fillies and mares, 3 and older, six furlongs

The Kip Deville Stakes on Oklahoma Derby Day kicks off the three-race series of 2-year-old stakes races at Remington Park. The $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes at seven furlongs is the middle race of the trio on Friday, Nov. 6. The $250,000 Springboard Mile completes the series on the final day of the season, Sunday, Dec. 13.

The closing day of the season on Dec. 13, is led by the $250,000 Springboard Mile and also boasts the $100,000 Trapeze Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Lovely Maria was fourth in the 2014 Trapeze, she went on to win the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Kentucky Oaks on May 1. Also on the Springboard Mile program:

*$50,000 Jim Thorpe Stakes, Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds, 1 mile

The stellar night of stakes races for Oklahoma-breds falls on Friday, Oct. 16 with the $1,000,000 (estimated) Oklahoma Classics. The program of eight-stakes races for top Oklahoma-breds is led by the $175,000 (est.) Classics Cup for 3 and older, going 1-1/16 miles. The other seven Classics races include:
*$145,000 (est.) Classics Distaff, fillies and mares, 3 and older, 1 mile-70 yards
*$130,000 (est.) Classics Sprint, 3-year-olds and older, six furlongs
*$130,000 (est.) Classics Distaff Sprint, fillies and mares, 3 and older, six furlongs
*$130,000 (est.) OKC Turf Classic, 3-year-olds and older, 1-1/16 miles (turf)
*$130,000 (est.) Classics Distaff Turf, fillies and mares, 3 & older, 1-1/16 miles (t)
*$100,000 (est.) Classics Juvenile, 2-year-olds, six furlongs
*$100,000 (est.) Classics Lassie, 2-year-old fillies, six furlongs

A pair of races for Oklahoma-breds have been added to the schedule late in the season. The $75,000 Don C. McNeill Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings at one mile will be held on Friday, Nov. 27. The race is named in honor of the late owner and breeder who passed away earlier this year. McNeill bred and campaigned the great Oklahoma-bred Clever Trevor. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington Park in 2012.

On the same program on Nov. 27 is the $75,000 Slide Show Stakes for Oklahoma-bred 2-year-old fillies. The race is named after the sensational filly who won 11 of her 12 Remington Park races, eight of them stakes events, in the mid-1990s.

Overall, 18 of the stakes races on the schedule are restricted to Oklahoma-breds.

The stakes schedule begins on the Opening Saturday of the season, Aug. 15, with the $175,000 Governor’s Cup for 3-year-olds and older at 1-1/8 miles. The same card features the $75,000 David M. Vance Sprint for 3-year-olds and older at six furlongs. The initial open-company turf stakes of the season is the $75,000 Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Handicap for 3-year-olds and older at 1-1/16 miles (turf) on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The normal first post time during the season is 7pm. Racing will be conducted on a regular Wednesday thru Saturday basis after the Opening Weekend is completed. Special Sunday programs take place for the Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 27 and for Springboard Mile Day on Dec. 13. Both programs begin at 1:30pm.

There will be holiday racing on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 7 at 1:30pm. Afternoon racing on Black Friday, Nov. 27 will also begin at 1:30pm. All times are Central. For the complete schedule, go to remingtonpark.com.
