Mare in Foal to Uncle Mo Tops Equine Sales Company Mixed Sale

equinesalessquareEquine Sales Company held its annual open yearling and mixed sale on Sunday in Opelousas, Louisiana. A total of 128 head sold for $418,000 with an average of $3,266. Buy-backs came in at 32.6% with 62 not sold from 190 offered.

Those results were off from last year’s smaller catalog when 92 of 122 sold for $579,900 and an average of $6,303, but the figures were still significantly above the 2013 auction when 98 sold for $232,700 and an average of $2,374.

“I felt we had a good catalog going in,” said Sales Director Foster Bridewell about the third edition of the open yearling and mixed sale format. “Considering the local economy with depressed oil prices and what has been going on in the marketplace of late I thought we had a decent sale.”

The high seller was hip #71, Love You Crazy. The stakes-placed daughter of Touch Gold sold in foal to leading freshman sire Uncle Mo and brought a bid of $55,000 from Chris and Lynne Boutte’s Boutte Training. Roger Daly, agent, consigned the mare.

“We would like to thank Roger Daly and Elena Crim of H & E Ranch for allowing us the opportunity to offer such a nice mare in foal to one of the country’s hottest stallions,” added Bridewell.

Asmussen Horse Center was the leading buyer with 10 purchases for $93,000, and Daly was the top consignor with two sold for $80,000.

Next up on the calendar for Equine Sales Company is a 2-year-olds in training sale in the spring.
