Louisiana Yearling Sale On Track For September 24

LTBAThe Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana Annual Yearling Sale is set for 11:00 a.m. CT at the Ike Hamilton Center in West Monroe, Louisiana on September 24. The Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Six additional yearlings were added to fill spots opened by horses withdrawn by consignors.

“We had the spots to fill with six early withdrawals from the yearling sale,” said Daren English, sales director.“You can check out the new horses on our online sortable table.” Hip numbers 22, 61, 83, 107, 130, and 165 are the additions.

“We are very optimistic about this sale,” added English. “Louisiana-breds are a good commodity because of the state’s breeding and racing incentive program.”

A breakfast is scheduled the morning of the sale from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for buyers and consignors.

“Our LTBA staff is already on site setting up and preparing for the arrival of consignors and the yearlings,” said Roger Heitzmann, secretary/treasurer for the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and executive director for the sale. “Our seasoned team that is making sure we have everything in place well in advance of the sale.”

Recent sales graduates are successful at the racetrack. Designer Legs, a graduate of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s annual yearling auction, is being pointed for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) with trainer Dallas Stewart. The 1 1/16-mile race will be run at Santa Anita on November 2.

Designer Legs, a Louisiana-bred daughter of Graeme Hall, was purchased at last year’s Breeders Sales Co. of Louisiana yearling auction for just $10,000. She has compiled a 3-for-4 record and earnings of $189,000 for Valene Farms.

Sittin At The Bar, a 2011 graduate of the sale, is eligible for the $100,000 Bayou State Bonus if she wins the Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes on September 21.

All accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2012 auctioned in this year’s sale are eligible for the Bayou State Bonus. Any such colt/gelding sold in this sale winning the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile, the 2015 Crescent City Derby, and the 2015 A.L. “Red” Erwin Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race. Any such filly sold in this sale winning the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie, the 2015 Crescent City Oaks, and the 2015 Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the official completion of the final race.

The bonus paid will be added to the earnings of the winning horse and paid to the owner of the horse after the official completion of the final race.
