The recent winter storm and week-long streak of sub-freezing weather days forced Remington Park to cancel three racing programs, Dec. 5-7. In order to make up for many of the lost racing opportunities, Remington Park has received permission to add a pair of racing programs, tacked on to what was to be the end of the season.
The $250,000 Springboard Mile, Remington Park’s top race for 2-year-olds, was meant to put a cap on the 2013 Thoroughbred Season on Sunday, Dec. 15. Upon approval from the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission late this afternoon, Remington Park will now conduct two more afternoon programs on Monday, Dec. 16 and Tuesday, Dec. 17, each beginning at 1:30pm.
The season will now end on Dec. 17, which will make history as the latest date in the calendar year that live racing has been conducted at Remington Park. Racing had stretched to Dec. 15 in 2002 and was scheduled to end on that same date this season until the added dates, necessitated by weather cancelations.
The Tuesday afternoon of racing on Dec. 17 will also mark the first Tuesday race card at Remington Park since Nov. 28, 2006 when Remington Park ran a regular schedule of races on Tuesday evenings.
The Remington Park racing schedule this week will now run five consecutive days from Friday, Dec. 13 thru Tuesday, Dec. 17. The first race on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 & 14 will be at 7pm. The race cards on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 15, 16 & 17 will begin at 1:30pm.
