Despite being launch in 2017, making it one of the latest additions to the horse racing calendar in the United States, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational has become a must watch for horse racing fans. Many of the leading horses from the US and around the world attend this meeting and there are two Grade 1 stakes races, with a total a combined purse of $4 million. It is not uncommon to spot celebrities at this meeting and thousands of fans around the world enjoy having a wager on the event.

In terms of individual races, one of the longest running in the United States is the Preakness Stakes. This race was inaugurated in 1873 and is held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course. It is one of the three races which combine to complete the Triple Crown and the attendance at the racetrack is only bettered by the Kentucky Derby. The total purse for the race is over $1 million, making it one of the richest individual races in the United States.
