ITBOA Online Stallion Season Auction Underway

The Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association is conducting an online auction of seasons to more than 180 stallions from 16 states.

The auction began Dec. 8 and closes at 7 p.m. (CDT) Monday, Dec. 17.

A list of the stallions donated and details of the auction are at http://www.thoroughlybred.com/sites/itboa/

Proceeds from the online auction will fund three stakes races for all 2020 offspring of stallions whose seasons are sold at this auction: The 2022 Stallion Futurity and two 2023 Stallion Stakes races for 3-year-olds, one for colts and one for fillies.

Since 2008, the Stallion Futurity and Stallion Stakes have each averaged more than $90,000 in purses and in 2015 a race for 3-year-old fillies was offered for the first time. The three races in 2018 had total purses of just over $280,000.

A $5,000 bonus will be paid to the winner of any of the three races if the foal is conceived from a breeding season purchased at the auction.

Fifty-two of the stallions stand for advertised fees of $5,000 or more. Among the stallions included in the auction are Dialed In, Shackleford, Flintshire, Not This Time, Paynter, Alternation, Army Mule, Fed Biz, Free Drop Billy, Mshawish & Tourist.

When the auction went online in 2010, proceeds went from $50,000 in 2009 to $191,884 in 2017. 107 seasons were sold in last year’s auction, with buyers from 21 states and Canada.

This is the only Stallion Auction where the donator of the stallion season is eligible to receive a $5000 per race bonus. This year Pin Oak Stud & Shadwell Farm in Kentucky, and Rockin River Ranch in Iowa each received $5,000 because foals by their stallions won the Iowa Stallion Futurity, Stallion Stakes and Filly Stallion Stakes. Past recipients of the Bonus include Adena Springs, Alfred Nuckols Jr, Darley, Diamond G Ranch, Hill n Dale, Lanes’s End, Margaux Farm, Madison County TBs, Mighty Acres, Rockin River Ranch, Special K Stables and Swifty Farms. To date the ITBOA has paid out $90,000 to Stallion Farms/Owners.

Stallion donations are still being accepted. Please contact the ITBOA Office at itboa@msn.com to donate or visit their website iowathoroughbred.com.
