This year’s Lone Star Park meet started just as last year’s did, with a victory by Supermason in the $50,000 Premiere Stakes for Texas-breds. With Lindey Wade up for trainer Bret Calhoun, the 5-year-old gelding by Valor Farm stallion Grasshopper scored by three-quarters of a length over Bravura with another 8 ¼ lengths back to Reflector in third. Super Mason, who was bred by W.S. Farish and E.J. Hudson Jr. Irrevocable Trust, clocked 6 ½ furlongs in 1:16.38 and earned $30,000 for owner Brad Grady.

Supermason improved his record to 25-8-3-3 with earnings of $279,400. In addition to two victories in the Premiere Stakes, the Texas-bred has captured the Assault Stakes and two divisions of the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series. Supermason sold for $25,000 at the 2013 Texas Summer Yearling Sale at Lone Star Park.
