Louisiana-breds were on display on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs for Louisiana Legends Night, and stallions based in Texas and Oklahoma had some big success.

Texas stallion Scrimshaw was represented by U Belong to Me, who rallied to finish third in the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Ladies Sprint. The 6-year-old mare, who won the same race last year, has now banked more than $250,000 in her career. Scrimshaw also had two winners over the weekend and both were 7-year-old mares. On Sunday, Kentucky-bred Midnight Scrimmage won a claiming race at Calder Race Course and moved closer to $100,000 in career earnings, and later in the same day Florida-bred Sailors Pasttiime earned her 12th career victory as Presque Isle Downs in Pennsylvania. Scrimshaw, a Grade 2-winning son Gulch, stands at Double S Thoroughbreds in Poynor.

Western Rock, a first-time starter by Texas stallion Intimidator, won a $40,000 maiden special weight race for Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds on the Louisiana Legends card. The gelding, bred by Keith Asmussen and owned by Asmussen and Erv Woolsey, earned $24,000 for the victory. Intimidator stands at Keith and Marilyn Asmussen’s Asmussen Horse Center in Laredo.

The $100,000 Louisiana Legends Classic Stakes went to Populist Politics, a son of the late Oklahoma stallion Don’t Get Mad, who stood at Rockin’ Z Ranch. Populist Politics went over the $500,000 mark in career earnings with the win.

Oratory, who stands at Eureka Thoroughbred Farm in Fredericksburg, Texas, had his daughter Shezacrazylilsis run third in the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Distaff Stakes to become stakes-placed for the first time.

In the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Mile for colts and geldings, Lattin Devil, a gelding by Oklahoma stallion Latent Heat, finished third and pushed his bankroll close to $150,000. Latent Heat stands at River Oaks Farms in Sulphur.
