Louisiana-bred Diamond Lucy Takes Wilma Mankiller Memorial Stakes

Will Rogers DownsDiamond Lucy, a Louisiana-bred daughter of Lewis Michael, won Monday’s $50,000 Wilma Mankiller Memorial Stakes at Will Rogers Downs by 2 ½ lengths under jockey Glen Murphy. The 4-year-old, who is owned and trained by Eleuterio Martinez Jr., dashed six furlongs in 1:09.91 at odds of 6-1.

Bred by Mays Farms, Diamond Lucy is now a perfect three-for-three this year after winning two allowance/optional claiming races at Sam Houston Race Park before shipping to Will Rogers. All told, she has a record of 15-6-0-2 with earnings of $97,460. This was her first stakes win.

Danny Caldwell’s Cabo Time, a recent allowance winner at Oaklawn Park, finished second as the even-money favorite. Joey Keith Davis’ Molly’s Honour, a Texas-bred by Etesaal, took third.
