Graded Oklahoma Derby, Remington Park Oaks Highlight 2018 Stakes Schedule at Remington Park

Remington Park’s 2018 Thoroughbred season will feature multiple graded stakes events for the first time in track history this fall. The stakes schedule for the season is headlined by numerous race cards stacked with big-money stakes opportunities.

The 2018 Thoroughbred Season begins Friday, Aug. 24 and completes a 67-date run on Sunday, Dec. 16. The $100,000 Remington Green Stakes kicks off the 32-race stakes schedule on Opening Night, at 1-1/8 miles over the turf.

Oklahoma Derby Day is the first major afternoon of stakes races, taking place Sunday, Sept. 30. The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby (1-1/8 miles) and the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks (1-1/16 miles) are the main events on the final day of September. The Remington Park Oaks will be contested as a graded race for the first time this year.

Other stellar races on the Oklahoma Derby Day undercard include: $175,000 Governor’s Cup (1-1/8 miles); the $150,000 David Vance Stakes (6 furlongs) and the $75,000 Kip Deville Stakes (6 furlongs). In all, Remington Park will run 10 stakes races on Oklahoma Derby Day.

The Kip Deville is the first major 2-year-old stakes race on the Remington Park schedule. The $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes (7 furlongs) is next in the 2-year-old series on Nov. 2 with the $400,000 Springboard Mile, the marquee race for first-year runners, taking place on the final afternoon of the season, Dec. 16.

Oklahoma-breds have plentiful opportunities in stakes competition with 16 events restricted to eligible state-breds. The eight stakes races that comprise Oklahoma Classics Night, will take place on Friday, Oct. 19. The evening, worth over $1,000,000 in total purses, is led by the $175,000 Classics Cup (1-1/16 miles).

The stakes purses have been raised on many Oklahoma-bred events, from $50,000 up to $65,000, for the 2018 season at Remington Park.
