The countdown begins as the 2020 Kentucky Derby will begin in a week from now. The Churchill Downs is set for America’s most celebrated horse racing. The Kentucky Derby this year is more hyped since this will serve as their redeeming moment after last year’s controversial stint of disqualifying a true winner.

As the Run For The Roses’ scent continues to touch the nostrils of every horse racing enthusiast, the competition gets tighter for horses who will complete the top twenty. As the Derby-prep races were all done and other tournaments had been completed, you can see that the final Derby leaderboard is now set to find who’s in and who’s out.

While the Kentucky Derby odds for 2020 is composed of twenty horses in the field, the top ten are the most-watched and come as big favorites. With one more week remaining before the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby, let’s know the top ten colts’ current Derby-points and odds ranking.

Tiz The Law (372 Points)

After a conclusive victory in the Travers Stakes last August 8, Tiz The Law has successfully secured 372-Derby points. That alone let him take the top spot in the Derby rankings and the biggest favorite to win the Run For The Roses. Since the start of this year, this colt has been consistent in his achievements and recorded four win streaks since the Holy Bull Stakes.

Authentic (200 Points)

Garnering a final score of 200-Derby points, Authentic is ready to run at Churchill Down taking the second spot in the current ranking. Bob Baffert may have a rough tide this Triple Crown season after Nadal and Charlatan’s retirement. However, he’s not losing hope as Authentic might make miracles for him after winning the Haskell Stakes last July 18, 2020.

Art Collector (150 Points)

Art Collector is the third Derby favorite based on the current ranking and points he earned. Some fans doubted his capability to compete in the Run For The Roses because he’s less experienced than other horses. However, he proved his worth by competing at the Blue Grass Stakes and Runhappy Ellis Park Derby, where he earned the title.

Honor A.P. (140 Points)

Like Baffert, John A. Shirreffs continues his quest to the Kentucky Derby this year as he sends Honor A.P. with big hopes to win the crown. He’s currently earned 140-Derby points and has been doing great in the previous races he competed. Honor A.P. secured three wins, including two-second places at San Felipe Stakes and Shared Belief Stakes. His Santa Anita Derby stint was a title win.

Ny Traffic (110 Points)

Earning final 110-Derby points, Ny Traffic occupies the 5th spot in the Derby rankings today. Before he sent his bid to run in the Kentucky Derby this year, he was already an achiever in many stakes races. His accomplishments were boosted, leading him to be part of the huge favorites after winning three significant placements in the Louisiana Derby, Haskell Stakes, and Matt Winn Stakes.

King Guillermo (90 Points)

Locking down in 6th place for the final Derby leaderboard is King Guillermo. This colt has the same impression with Art Collector taking only a few racing games, but ended strongly. It is why he earned 90 points and another Derby favorite.  His two major accomplishments were the second place in the Arkansas Derby and a title he won at the Tampa Bay Derby.

Thousand Words (83 Points)

Thousand Words had an inconsistent ranking during the past few months but has finally settled at the 7th place in the final Derby leaderboard. Garnering around 83-Derby points, Bob Baffert has another strong contender to saddle up at Churchill Downs. He won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes last February while placing only in the Los Alamitos Derby. However, he bounced back big time at Shared Belief Stakes and brought home the bacon.

Dr Post (80 Points)

After placing second in the Belmont Stakes, Dr Post has earned 80-Derby points and settled on the 8th place in the final leaderboard. Apart from that, he was also able to accomplish two other significant achievements: the title in Unbridled Stakes and a third place in the Haskell Stakes.

Max Player  (60 Points)

Finishing both in third place during the Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes, Max Player is up for another challenge in the Derby as he settled down in ninth place. He’s going to face all his rivals listed above and hope to find all the odds in favor of him this time.

Caracaro (60 Points)

Surprisingly, Caracaro is completing the Derby big favorites list in the upcoming Run For The Roses. Today, he earned 60-Derby points, although he only saddled up in a few racing games. He was a second placer in the Peter Pan Stakes and Travers Stakes.

Takeaway

The final Derby leaderboard will serve as a guide for every bettors and fan to find who’s the best racehorse to win the Kentucky Derby this year. Will Tiz The Law dominate the Run For the Roses on Saturday, or do the other colts disappoint him? We’ll all find out soon.
