Condition Book and Stall Applications Available for Prairie Meadows Meet

prairie-meadows-logoCondition Book 1, covering the first 14 days of the 2016 Thoroughbred season at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, is now available both online and in print.

“We’re confident that our first condition book for 2016 offers horsemen the races they need to get their seasons off to productive starts,” said Director of Racing Derron Heldt.

“Our purse structure will continue to maintain a bottom level purse at $10,000 along with having a maiden allowance purse at $30,000” he added. “Opening weekend will include two three-year-old sprint stakes at $65,000 each with the Golden Circle on Friday, April 29 for the boys and the Goldfinch on Saturday, April 30 for girls. The Iowa-Bred stakes program starts the weekend of May 20 for older sprinters boys and girls.”

Thoroughbred stall application forms are due Wednesday, March 23, 2016. The forms are also available online and in print. They include eligibility rules, terms and conditions, and instructions on how to submit completed documents to the Prairie Meadows racing office by mail, fax, or email.

The barn area at Prairie Meadows will open to horses on Friday, April 1, 2016. Training will begin on Sunday, April 3, 2016 on the training track only.

The main track will open for training and workouts on Sunday, April 10 with starting gate hours beginning Wednesday April 13.

Horsemen should be on notice to expect heightening health and safety measures for horses coming to Prairie Meadows. With the serious nature of a recent outbreak of the neurologic strain of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) at racetracks and other facilities, horsemen should expect additional requirements in order to safeguard the welfare of horses and for Prairie Meadows to protect the health of its equine population. Information on additional requirements will be forthcoming soon, but in the meantime Prairie Meadows racing officials urge owners and trainers to take precautionary steps to make sure your equine athletes and pony horses have received recent health care attention and have updated certificates for the 2016 racing season.

Complete information on the 2016 training schedule and hours, gate schooling, workouts, preference dates, safety equipment, entry schedule, and post times is detailed in the Important Information document which is posted online.
