Colorado Silver Cup Yearling Sale Set for Aug. 5

The Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders Association will conduct its annual Silver Cup Yearling Sale on Saturday, Aug. 5, at Arapahoe Park Racetrack.

Sale graduates are eligible for the $50,000-estimated Silver Cup Futurity, to be run in 2018 at Arapahoe Park. In addition, fillies have preference to run in the Arapahoe Debutante, a $30,000 stake that offers a $15,000 bonus exclusively for Silver Cup graduates.

Colorado-bred yearlings also earn bonus payments for their buyers when they finish first, second or third in races run in Colorado. Last year, owners of Colorado-bred Thoroughbreds collected nearly $250,000 in bonus awards.

Represented sires include Awesome Patriot, Delhomme, General Quarters, Misremembered, Ready’s Image, Run Away and Hide, Sidney’s Candy, Sky Mesa and Warrior’s Reward, along with local standouts El Roblar, Oliver’s Twist and Zip Quik.

The sale typically catalogs 50 to 60 yearlings. Consignments closed on June 16, and the catalog can be viewed at www.COTBA.com.

Sale graduates include graded-stakes winner Get Happy Mister ($384,928, San Simeon, Gr. 3), grade 3-placed Tenango ($490,856), and multiple-stakes winner Wally Van ($306,414).

Last year’s sale offered plenty of bargain opportunities as the sale average dipped to $6,088 with a median of $3,600.
